Siege #1 (of 4); Written by Brian Michael Bendis; Art by Oliver Coipel. First big event of 2010!

The epic event we've all been waiting for, an event seven years in the making, is finally upon us. Marvel's Siege begins this week with an opening issue that's sure to prove that we will never know the depths of Norman Osborn's insanity.

Is this a calculated attack on an otherworldly force, or the last stand of a mad man? Will Osborn achieve total control? Will the Marvel heroes be able to put aside the grudges they've held with each other through Civil War and the Secret Invasion for long enough to defeat this common foe? The story of Siege begins here.

Beginning with the ravaging affects of Avengers Disassembled and following the aftermaths of House of M, Civil War and Secret Invasion, culminating with the evil Reign of Norman Osborn, the Marvel Universe has been left with its greatest villains holding more power and control than ever before.

On the brink of madness, Osborn, in his final bid to take total control, targets the final obstacle in his mission…Asgard. Events are set in motion forcing our heroes to put aside the deep rifts that have grown over the past seven years. Opposing them stand a horde of evil that has begun to take down the gods of the Golden Realm!

Other comics out this week

Superheroes and villains aren't the only ones rising from the dead in Blackest Night. In a series of one-shots, Blackest Night will raise eight dead, buried, but not forgotten DC comic series. Beginning this week, we will see what happens when the Suicide Squad and Wierd Western Tales take on Blackest Night. Rising from the dead in coming weeks are The Power of Shazam, The Question, The Atom and Hawkman, The Phantom Stranger and more!

The only female Phantom sets off on a historic trek around the world in The Phantom: Julie Walker - Race Against Time. That's right Phantom fanatics! Julie Walker stars in this mini-series as a woman forced to take over the role of the Phantom in order to protect her friend Nellie Bly. Someone, however, does not want her to accomplish her record breaking task.

The Merc with a Mouth teams up with the Spirits of Vengeance in Deadpool Team-up #897. When asked to take out the mayor of Freaksville, USA, Deadpool is faced with one complicated situation as one of the Fallen decides to take over the world. Luckily for Deadpool the Ghost Riders, Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch, just happen to be in town.

Trade of the week - The Unwritten

Tom Taylor's life was screwed from the word go. His father created the mega-popular Tommy Taylor boy-wizard fantasy novels. But dad modeled the fictional epic so closely to Tom that fans constantly compare him to his counterpart, turning him into a lame, Z-level celebrity.

When a scandal hints that Tom might really be the boy-wizard made flesh, Tom comes into contact with a mysterious, deadly group that's secretly kept tabs on him all his life. Now, to protect his life and discover the truth behind his origins, Tom will travel the world, to all the places in world history where fictions have shaped reality.

That is the story behind The Unwritten Vol.1, this week's featured TPB.
